Fitting Words
Fitting words.
Some words just don't fit. This is one of those words.
I can't say that it is a bad word. It isn't. It isn't ugly. It has no color. It is a logical word based on its make-up of parts. But it is just not me. So I can't use it.
Again, this word doesn't fit me.
It is not because it is a profane word; it is not sinful. It is a word that shouldn't be used. Again, in a sentence, it is just a word that just doesn't fit.
Writers are known for their words as well as specific phrases. Well-known authors have certain words or phrases their readers will often quote because of their memorable meaning or impact on a particular story. These will be well-known words or phrases. Some writers may be able to use this word in a story or article successfully and have it quoted by others. But there won't be many writers using this word successfully. I would not be among those quoted as using this word. I am sure of this possibility because it is not a word that fits me.
Words come, and words go. Language changes with time. Word choices change. Word meanings change. Could this word ever change in its meaning or use? Could this word ever become a word known and used worldwide? I don't see how it could. It must be a word based on some Latin or Greek base words. This word comes simply from two very commonly used words. Boring indeed.
Now, concerning the use of this word, could it be used in scientific writing? I can't see it used. Would well-known doctors or physicians use it in their research papers or technical reports? Not if they are expecting to keep their reputation. Would those versed in psychology or physical rehabilitation use this word as they would discuss the stress in people's lives? They might, but only if their clients used it first and asked about their thoughts.
So, what is good about this word?
As we grow older, it will be a word we hear and use less frequently. Hopefully, it will soon cease to be used. In time, it will be one of those words no one remembers except game show contestants. One nice thing is that it will not be a word on a spelling test for our grandchildren that we will have to drill them on.
So you can see, some words just don't fit. Indeed, this is one of those words.
