Part Thirty-One
The truth is easier to think about and also to talk about unless one has been deceived, but we are going on from there.
Paul also said we should be thinking about “things that are noble” (at least in the NIV.) This word may not be commonly used now, so a dictionary might be needed. I will give some here, but you can use your own computer for more.
NOBLE:
1. belonging to a hereditary class with high social or political status; aristocratic.
2. having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles and ideals.
I think Paul was thinking about the second definition. We are to think about things that show fine personal qualities and high moral principles and ideals.
When we think about things that show fine personal qualities, we will have to start thinking about things that Jesus taught about.
What is the goal that Jesus has for our Life? What does Jesus want us to be like? When people see our actions and hear our speech, what will they know about us? What do our lives represent?
You might be asking yourself, "What will thinking about these kinds of things do for me"?
What if you start thinking about “needing a new couch?” When we start thinking about something, we may start investigating ways to actually acquire that new couch.
This is what Paul wants us to do in our walk and living with Jesus – acquire traits and qualities that demonstrate Jesus’ teaching in our lives.
So, examine all of Philippians 4:8-9 to see what Paul wants us to do for a Life and Living check.

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
Since we each have to examine our own lives, I’ll leave the following few lines empty. I’ll think about my life, and you can think about your life.
I didn’t know how much space to leave since I didn’t know how much time it was going to take you. Since I am such a slow reader, I am also a slow thinker, so I think I will have to do my thinking “offline.”
