Life and Living
Part Twenty-one
One definition of abhor is "to regard with disgust and hatred."
A mild form and meaning of that word might be “to dislike” something.
We use the term dislike many times when we are talking about food.
We have a bounty of food choices, so that we may like one food better than another, but we have probably eaten some foods we dislike.
Many have yet to eat or touch a bite of food we abhorred unless it was from a dare made by a friend.
One Bible translation uses the word detestable to describe how God feels and thinks about specific human thoughts or actions.
Detestable is an extreme hatred for something.
We can read of six of these, or seven of these, in Proverbs 6:16-19. (See below.) Just because these are the worst sins in God's eye, it doesn't mean that the other sins are OK for humans to do.
Although I have heard of "little white lies" as being OK to tell, what would God think of them?
When we start to determine which sins are of no consequence to God, we act as a judge of God.
We are telling him what we can do without his permission.
We are overstepping our bounds. God is God, and I (we are not.) am not.
Instead of making "small sins" OK in God's sight, let us determine that all sins are displeasing to Him and make it our choice to avoid these by making a decision to hate these also in our daily Living.

Proberbs 6:
16 There are six things the Lord hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19 a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
