We can have a clean conscience.
If we think we are having trouble with our conscience bothering us, we need to study this verse from the Bible: Hebrews 9:14. Here it is.
Hebrews 9:14 (NIV)
14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!
(There are more passages also.)
God wants us to be able to serve Him, the living God, with a clear conscience. All it takes is the blood of Christ. Here it is if you will listen. At the time we believed and were baptized for the forgiveness of our sins (Acts 2:38), we received the gift of the Holy Spirit, and in the process, God clears our conscience. We may not realize he has, but if he can forgive us our sins, he can cleanse our conscience at the same time. We will still be able to remember our sins, but in our conscientiousness, God has cleaned it. We can trust God’s inspired word because He has given it to us.
Read again Hebrews 9:14.
Then, ask ourselves a few questions.
1. Did we really repent of our sins? Have we done anything to show it?
2. Do we really believe God can and will forgive our sins?
3. Did we have God’s peace after we were baptized?
4. Did we have the hope of heaven after we were baptized?
5. Was I just following others who were baptized and thought I will just do what they did without knowing what I was doing?
6. Daily, when I realized I sinned again (missed God’s standard), did I again ask for God’s forgiveness (how many times did Peter ask if he should forgive others?) Christ’s blood is still available daily as we sin.
Thank you for reading what I write.
Good thoughts, Larry! Thank you!
