You Know It Is Spring When


You Know It Is Spring When
In your chest, hearts beat a little faster.
You know there is a change
By the tingle of your skin.
You know now something feels new.
From the warmth, the sunshine gives
From the warmth, the sunshine gives
By the new smells that on the breezes come
By the new smells that on the breezes come
By the delightful sights your eyes behold
You know there is a change.

The change is here to stay for a while
Just as God said it would.
It will come and go every year and so
We knew there would be a change.
We waited for it with hopeful eyes.
We waited for it with a beating heart.
We waited for it with a tingly skin.
We waited for it as the sunshine came.
We waited for it as the breezes blow by.
We waited for it because God said it would come.

And now that it is here.
It is more than we thought
Even though we have seen it before.
It came this time quite suddenly, it seems
We waited a long time for the change to come.
But now that it is here, we note
We’ve also seemed to have changed
(A change in our heart
No one can see.)
We look out the window
And hear the wind blowing through the trees
But not like it did in the mournful past.
The trees have new leaves to soften the blast.
